Swimming Pool Tips & Tricks

Pool

When it comes to your pool, there are a variety of things that you can do to help save money in the long run. At Master Touch Services, we work with our clients to find ways to save money while still being able to experience the wonderful benefits of having a pool.

Install variable speed pumps to reduce electricity costs

With new, variable speed pumps pool owners are able to significantly reduce their energy usage each month. In fact, some owners have seen as much as a 90% savings compared to less efficient two speed pumps. Depending on the size of your pool, this can equate to between $500 and $1000 in savings each year. That savings can help offset your pool cleaning costs.

Convert to a salt system to reduce costs and maintenance

By converting to a salt system you can also reduce your overall maintenance costs. Converting to a salt system will cost more than a chlorine based system upfront, but will usually pay for itself within 2-3 years. Not only are the costs lower, but the chlorine levels are much lower as well. This allows you and your family to swim without the water stinging your eyes.

Less chemicals are also healthier for your family. With a salt system, chlorine is a byproduct of the salt system, but the amount of chlorine in the water is much lower than a chlorine based system. Expect to spend much less each year in chemicals with a salt system compared to a chlorine system.

Keep your filters clean

By keeping your filters clean, you can avoid costly problems down the road.

Run your filter at night

In the summer, electricity usage is at its peak due to the high temperatures. Some electrical companies even charge a premium for electricity usage during the day. To avoid this added cost, add a variable speed programmable pump which can allow you to run the pump when the electricity is less expensive.

Purchase a solar cover

You are correct in thinking that keeping the cover off of your pool all summer will keep your water warm. The problem though is that keeping the cover off also means that your pool water will evaporate more quickly. This requires you to add more water, and in turn more chemicals.

In Florida, neither water nor chemicals are cheap. By covering your pool you can typically decrease the amount of water usage by around 50% which means money in your pocket.

Adjust the temperature

Turning the temperature down when the pool is not in use can also translate into big savings. Even a temperature change of just a few degrees can save significant money over an extended period of time.
